Alleged After-Hours Confrontation at Robbins Farm Park

Police received a call at about 3:10 a.m. Saturday from a male who said that another driver had just “displayed a bat in a threatening manner” near the intersection of Highland and Eastern avenues.

Once there, police heard from the male caller and his three friends.

The male said that another male had just gotten out of his car and raised a bat over his head in a threatening manner toward him and his friends, who were in their car. He said the male was with three females, and he got back in his car, a 2004-2006 silver Toyota Corolla, and drove east on Spring Street. Police were unable to locate the vehicle in question.

The male said 10 minutes prior to this incident, he and his friends were hanging out at Robbins Farm Park when they came across the suspects. He said the suspects were hanging out near the slides, and as he and his friends were walking up toward the benches at the top of the park, one of the suspects threw a glass bottle at them, but it did not hit any of them. Police later found broken glass and liquid in that area.

The male said he and his friends then yelled back at the suspects. He said the argument was short, and he and his friends continued on.

After a few minutes, he said he and his friends decided to leave the park to avoid any further altercation. He said that when they walked down to his car on Eastern Avenue, however, the suspects were waiting for them and followed them to their car.

One of the suspects said, “Hey, let’s see if these rich Arlington kids have any iPhones,” according to the male. He said he and his friends got into their car and locked their doors. He said the suspects then began hovering around the car and tapping on its windows.

At this time, he said he called police. He said the suspects threw a bottle at his car while he drove off.

When he was on the phone with a police dispatcher, he said he stopped at the intersection of Highland and Eastern avenues and backed up to look at the license plate on the suspects’ vehicle, which was parked on Scituate Street. He said the suspects then drove toward him, and that’s when the male suspect got out and showed the bat. The male suspect was about 40 feet away from the male caller’s vehicle. The male suspect never ran toward the male caller’s vehicle or attempted to hit with the bat, according to the male caller. The suspect then drove away, he said.

Police told the male and his friends that they would file a police report. They also advised the group of the park’s closing times and told them not to be in the park after hours.

Youths Found with Alcohol at McClennen Park

Police responded to McClennen Park at about 11:55 p.m. Friday for a report of youths loitering after hours.

Once there, police located fourth youths, one of which was allegedly holding a large bottle.

As soon as the youths noticed the police, they began to walk away from the park, according to police. Two officers soon reached them and asked what had happened to the bottle. The officers then located the bottle on the ground, about 10 feet away from the youths.

The boy who allegedly had been holding the bottle denied knowing anything about it, police said.

When the officers were identifying the youths, two of them admitted to having beer in their backpacks. Overall, police found one handle of Rubinoff Vodka mixed with orange juice, six Budweisers and two Dos Equis’ bottles.

Police called the youths’ parents to come pick them up. Police were planning to file complaints for underage possession against all of the youths.
